First VW camping trip

by @ 12:17 am. Filed under Uncategorized, Family, Pets

This weekend we took our first ever camping trip in the bus…It was great we all had a great time, except Sprout had some issues with elevation and her arthritis. But overall we had a blast. I posted some picture we took while we were there in the gallery, here is a sneak peak.

Here is a pic of the bus on the way down 83 back to Tucson.

And here is Eva enjoying her new perch keeping a look out while we sleep.

No posts

Yeah yeah I know its been a while since the last post, I have been busy. BUT for a good reason…

I got my VW running again, and this time she is running very good. In fact it passed AZ emissions testing  with no problems. I am posting up some pictures in my gallery of my VW rust bucket, its ugly and rusty but she is a blast to drive…even Steph has been digging it (easier for a pregnant woman to get in and out of).

I have some plans for her yet to be finalized but I will post to inform you when I do get a plan together.

ALSO I posted some pics of Steph to the gallery to show her "progress" my boy is making her get big…yet I dont think its quite over yet!! hehe

Funny but true

While delving into some Spamassassin rule sites I came across a link that describes what an admin/computer tech goes through when it comes to dealing with "end-users", its a funny read if you know what we go through.

This guy is INSANE!

by @ 4:41 pm. Filed under Uncategorized

Now I am all about the free expression of graffiti, when done properly and legally (most of which it is not). In fact I used to hit legal spots all the time with a can or 20, but we did it when and where it was legal. (by the way don’t ever call or label me a tagger, I despise those kinds of guys, taggers are normally fuck-tard kids that have no respect, piecers is the proper term for what I was.) I had lots of fun and made lots of friends in the graffiti underground, lots of them were law breakers, but most were very respectful, and did things legally.

Then there is this guy…who in my estimation is either incredibly brave, or incredibly stupid (probably the former). This guy managed to break into a Virginia airport, get past a full military gaurd with dogs, bypass a police patrol, get through 2 barbed wire fences, and then proceded to tag "AirForce One", yes your heard right he tagged our presidents plane! Once of the most secure planes ever to fly, and this guy got close enough to TAG IT! UNREAL!

Now as much as I hate illegal tagging and don’t wish to glorify it or give press to people who do I am putting up this link to a video of this action. Yes he filmed the whole thing as he did it. Now if you visit his website he does make some pretty valid points regarding freedom and graffiti, infact he does not condone illegal tagging either, he did this as an action to "start a dialog" to make things come to light. Hopefully it works, but more than likely he is sitting in a dark room with guys wearing sunglasses talking to invisible voice around them, good luck with that!

Here is his website, with the video and his resoning behind this action: http://www.stillfree.com

(these are copy and paste links for a reason, I dont feel like having my referer anywhere near this one)

What a day

by @ 4:46 pm. Filed under Uncategorized

Man, work is pretty slow today, barely any phone calls, servers are somewhat behaving (minus some mail issues with relaying) but the thing that is really keep my day interesting is these really high winds were are getting right now. The reason it’s interesting is my WiFi antennas, they are whipping around quite a bit. Kinda strange but my connections have been pretty stable so far. I did have a few fades when a real strong gust came by, but its been pretty cool seeing the antennas shake and move, yet still push 5Mbps..kinda cool. This is the first real wind we have gotten since I put up my Vagi antenna, so far they are doing a bangup job!

Oh yeah I just got a new Desk and a 19inch LCD monitor. I am trying to clean up my home workspace and get rid of my packrat clutter to make room for the coming baby. Right now I have a HUGE desk, one of those large U shaped executive desks. Normally this is a catch all for my trash and experimental "projects", so my goal is to minimize with more functionality. I will snap some before and after shots, I am hoping it will be a good transition for me, and I am hoping to make more room in our apartment for our baby boy when he gets here. I guess we will see. Well back to the grind…

Mars Rovers

by @ 3:30 pm. Filed under Geek Things

Can you believe the Mars rovers are still going…its simply fasinating that they lived this long. And now we find out that Spirit is now "Safe For the Winter". They had to move Spirit to an an outcrop so he can get enough light to survive the winter, and he is now safe with a 20% boost in power. Heres the scoop: http://www.newscientistspace.com/article/dn8980-last-minute-diversion-takes-mars-rover-to-safety.html

illegal immigrants

by @ 12:35 pm. Filed under Uncategorized

OK, apparently on Monday here in Tucson there is going to be a big "rally" of those opposed to the new illegal immigrant bills that the government is mulling over. Now while I am all for immigrants that come to this country legally and do the "right" thing, I am not ok with the illegal ones. But these protesters seem to feel otherwise.

Here’s my problem…YOUR HERE ILLEGALLY…hence the word illegal..oh wait they don’t speak English, so I guess they don’t understand that. I don’t care if your from Mexico, China, Brazil, Europe, Mars…your here ILLEGALLY…get over yourself. Do the right thing and simply work with the government to become legal..plain and simple.

Now some of the issues I have with these protesters steam from the flag issue, I know its a hot debate and doesn’t really reflect the reason behind the protest but there is something wrong with it. For one if you wish to be an American citizen, don’t go pushing your original country’s flag in my face, and then get angry when I put it down. This is America, not Mexico, you don’t see me walking around in Mexico waving and American flag at you now do you. If you love your country so much to put down America by doing this then go back to your own country, obviously you don’t like it here.

Now here comes the kicker, Schools!! There are some schools here in Tucson where the teachers are urging the kids in these schools to go and join the protest. THIS IS NOT A TEACHER RESPONSIBILITY, a teacher is supposed to present both side of the issues and the kids should make their own decisions. 10 to 1 if you ask some of the 7th & 8th graders that are leaving school to protest why they are going to protest I guarantee your will here them say "cause I get to leave school", alot of them don’t care its just another reason to get out of school. AND Teachers, if you encourage kids to walk and join, then you deserve to be FIRED! (which the Tucson school districts said they would do: good for them)

And to those schools in Colorado and else where that have BANNED FLAGS…GO FUCK YOURSELVES YOU NAZI PRICKS, I am glad that the judge in Colorado set you straight by saying it is "Un-Patriotic and Un-American" to ban the US flag….hmmm if I remember my history correctly the last set of people to do something remotely like this was NAZI GERMANY, next thing you know our kids will be marching in brown uniforms in formation because the school demands it!

SO here’s my plan, let the protesters rally and what not, since figures show that alot of them are here illegally simply line the streets with BORDER PATROL, no one gets in or out of the area without proper ID, no green card no pass, fill those fancy busses I see Border Patrol driving around in with everyone that is illegal AND DRIVE THEM HOME, flags and all, hmmm problem solved, well for a few days anyway. It takes a few days to walk the desert to get back.

The minutemen idea is a good one the Border Patrol really need to take notice. The people crossing our borders are not only Mexican, but we have captures other nationals coming through this border. So it not only and issue of illegal mexican immagration, its a NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUE. Personally I live very close to the border, I don’t want some terrorist deciding to cross here because its so easy to do with a damm dirty bomb strapped to his back. We know they have the means..and we are giving them the way..fucking stupid if you ask me..LOCK DOWN THE BORDERS, real American lives are at risk!

Here is my message to every illegal alien, and just so I cover them all I will translate for you

GO BACK HOME
Vaya detrás a casa
Gehen Sie zurück nach Hause
Retournez à la maison
Vada indietro a casa
Vá para trás para casa
家に行きなさい
후적으로 가정 가십시요

Qmail + Vpopmail = Aack, child crashed

by @ 11:11 am. Filed under Geek Things, Work, BSD / UNIX

This morning my main mailserver took a dump and decided to lock up on me, it happens everynow and then (mail servers do alot of IO) but once I rebooted, cleared out some core files..etc I noticed every login attempt resulted in an "Aack, child crashed" message. I have seen this before but for the life of me I could not remember the remedy. So I then remember that it had to do with with the relay mechanism in vpopmail, since I run POP before SMTP it builds a relay file so my clients can use the outgoing smtp as a mail relay. So I travel into the vpopmail etc folder to find tons of "open-smtp.tmp" files…ahh the plot thickens…now I cant remember the fix for it! Damm so here comes Google where I found my answer. Here is what is going on

The relay file autmaticall build a "open-smtp" file that gets included into the CDB database of mail relays, this file was hosed and it was not clearing itself. Here is what my directory looked like (minus a few hundred .tmp files)

-rw-r–r–   1 root      vchkpw    25 Mar 28  2004 inc_deps
-rw-r–r–   1 root      vchkpw    32 Mar 28  2004 lib_deps
-rw-r–r–   1 root      vchkpw  3351 Apr  6 08:17 open-smtp
-rw-r–r–   1 root      vchkpw     0 Apr  6 10:45 open-smtp.lock
-rw-r–r–   1 root      vchkpw     0 Apr  6 10:45 open-smtp.tmp.11526
-rw-r–r–   1 root      vchkpw     0 Apr  6 10:44 open-smtp.tmp.12382
-rw-r–r–   1 root      vchkpw     0 Apr  6 10:45 open-smtp.tmp.13149
-rw-r–r–   1 root      vchkpw     0 Apr  6 10:44 open-smtp.tmp.14253
-rw-r–r–   1 root      vchkpw     0 Apr  6 10:44 open-smtp.tmp.17356
-rw-r–r–   1 root      vchkpw     0 Apr  6 10:44 open-smtp.tmp.17421
-rw-r–r–   1 root      vchkpw     0 Apr  6 10:44 open-smtp.tmp.18429
-rw-r–r–   1 root      vchkpw     0 Apr  6 10:44 open-smtp.tmp.21172
-rw-r–r–   1 root      vchkpw     0 Apr  6 10:45 open-smtp.tmp.21453
-rw-r–r–   1 root      vchkpw     0 Apr  6 10:45 open-smtp.tmp.24133
-rw-r–r–   1 root      vchkpw     0 Apr  6 10:44 open-smtp.tmp.27849
-rw-r–r–   1 root      vchkpw     0 Apr  6 10:44 open-smtp.tmp.282
-rw-r–r–   1 root      vchkpw     0 Apr  6 10:44 open-smtp.tmp.28685
-rw-r–r–   1 root      vchkpw     0 Apr  6 10:44 open-smtp.tmp.3689
-rw-r–r–   1 root      vchkpw     0 Apr  6 10:44 open-smtp.tmp.4512
-rw-r–r–   1 root      vchkpw     0 Apr  6 10:44 open-smtp.tmp.6152
-rw-r–r–   1 root      vchkpw   300 May  8  2004 tcp.smtp
-rw-r–r–   1 vpopmail  vchkpw  5928 Apr  6 08:04 tcp.smtp.cdb

So the fix is simple from this point on, one command will rule them all

# rm open-smtp*

(of course make sure your backups are up to date before issuing a rm command with an *)

Now login and see the magic, the file "open-smtp" & "open-smtp.lock" will be created on the next login..no more child error..mail flows normally, and no more .tmp files filling the folder.

Hope this helps someone out there, I know I may have to refer back to this post more than once.

Humorus Comment

by @ 11:27 am. Filed under Geek Things, Work

While browsing my morning news I was reading an article over on TechDirt.com (http://techdirt.com/articles/20060405/031234.shtml) about China looking to block VoIP services in their country. Now we all know China is pretty strict on their internet policies so this comes as no shock. The last sentence of the article poses a point of "When will voip providers find a way around blocks" So the first comment on the article reads "Do you really want to play hide and seek with someone willing to park a tank on your chest?", at this point I had to laugh out loud, so simple yet so true…its the simple things that make me laugh sometimes!
